Burglary Suspect Stephan Karkoc Identified in Loma Grande Subdivision; Manhunt Underway in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, NM — A suspect in a vehicle burglary that occurred Thursday in the Loma Grande Subdivision has been identified as Stephan Karkoc, according to a statement issued by Lincoln County Sheriff Michael Wood. Karkoc, who is currently on pretrial release for other criminal offenses, is now the subject of an active arrest warrant and is considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect is believed to be traveling on foot in the company of an unidentified female. Law enforcement officials have deployed deputies throughout the area near NM State Road 37, urging residents to remain vigilant.

“This guy is on pretrial release for other criminal offenses and has outstanding warrants for his arrest from other states,” Sheriff Wood stated. “He may become desperate, so arm yourself with whatever you are comfortable and proficient with.”

Public Safety Advisory

Residents of the Loma Grande Subdivision and surrounding areas are being asked to:

• Lock all doors and windows

• Avoid approaching the suspects

• Call 911 immediately if they are seen

Sheriff Wood emphasized that anyone who sees or hears anything concerning should contact his office directly and not attempt to intervene.

Karkoc’s criminal history includes outstanding warrants from other states, and his current release status has raised concerns about potential escalation. The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the name or description of the female companion.
