Legal & Publishing Structure

2nd Life Media Inc is a New Mexico for-profit corporation that owns and licenses the brands, domains, and trademarks AlamogordoTownNews.org,  NewMexicoConservativeNews.com, the47thVoice.com, Block12.org, and KRAZY KALH Streaming Radio to the 501(c)(4) nonprofit Southwestern Trails Cultural Heritage Association (STCHA).

The media platforms operate as a 501(c)(4) social-welfare nonprofit, which allows it to engage in unlimited issue advocacy and limited candidate-related speech in service of the civic betterment of Otero County and the Tularosa Basin—activities that would be restricted or prohibited for a traditional 501(c)(3) charity

A 501(c)(4) organization may directly or indirectly support or oppose a candidate for public office or a political cause as long as such activities are not a substantial amount of its activities making up less then 49.5% of activities per IRS regulations.

Southwestern Trails Cultural Heritage Association is solely and exclusively responsible for all platforms:

• All written, spoken, and streamed content

• All editorial decisions, reporting, commentary, and programming

Who We Are

We are Southern New Mexico’s most-read and listened to independent news and broadcasting organization, proudly based in the historic Alamogordo MainStreet district (Block 12 – 1209 Studio Q). Through our licensed platforms we deliver daily local news, investigative reporting, sports, arts, culture, politics, and community celebration to 20,000–25,000 readers and listeners every day across web, streaming radio, YouTube, podcast, and social channels.

We are independent of big corporate media, big oil, big healthcare, and all political parties. Our affiliated companies are members of the Online News Association and LION Publishers (Local Independent Online News).

Our Mission

• Celebrate what makes Alamogordo and the Tularosa Basin exceptional

• Spotlight local business, arts, tourism, fitness, and achievement

• Provide deeper, fact-based coverage than corporate-owned competitors

• Challenge leadership—left, right, or center—to transparency, collaboration, and policies that serve the broad community, not just privileged insiders

• Advocate for strong public education, STEM + vocational training, tourism, cultural revitalization, and Second-Chance empowerment

Editorial & Ethical Standards

(Governed exclusively by the Southwestern Trails Cultural Heritage Association Editorial Board)

1. Accuracy – We verify facts against primary documents and on-the-record sources. Errors are corrected quickly, transparently, and permanently noted.

2. Fairness – Subjects of criticism are contacted in advance when possible and given space to respond.

3. Transparency – Sources are named unless safety or whistleblower protection requires anonymity (and the reason is explained). All articles are permanently archived via the Internet Archive, archive.today, and Harvard’s Perma.cc (for high-impact stories).

4. Independence – No advertiser, sponsor, or donor influences story selection or framing. Underwriting is clearly labeled and never trades for coverage.

5. Voice – Our core editorial stance is constitutionalist, limited-government, pro-Second Amendment, pro-free speech, and pro-community self-reliance. Opinion and commentary are labeled; the “Community Voices” section hosts diverse viewpoints.

6. Conflicts – Personal or financial interests that could affect coverage are disclosed.

7. Standards – We follow the journalistic guidelines of LION Publishers and the Society of Professional Journalists. Complaints are reviewed by the Editorial Board within seven days (ethics@2ndlifemedia.org). An annual Transparency Report is published each January.

We exist to showcase #ExclusivelyAlamogordo and #AlamogordoProud stories while holding power accountable—so our community can return to the glory days of excellence in education, business, arts, and culture.

Whether covering youth organizing in Las Cruces, environmental justice in the Mesilla Valley, or statewide policy debates, The 47th Voice News is more than a publication—it’s a call to action.

Progressive Ideas. Southwest Voices.
